New York City Mission Trip Day 7

Today (Sunday), we enjoyed a great time of worship and teaching at Hillsong NYC.  It was so great to join with other people passionately worshiping the Lord.  During the afternoon, we spent time with our team hanging out at the beach.  In the evening, we had an awesome worship time at the beach.  It was awesome to be able to sing and worship and enjoy the beauty of the beach.  As we sang, we began to pray and sing over this city, and the people we have encountered while here.

This morning (Monday), we are packing up, cleaning up, and heading to the airport for our trip home.  We plan to be in Springfield by about 6 or 7pm.

Please keep praying for safe travel and a smooth trip home!

New York City Mission Trip Day 6

Long full day of being tourists in Manhattan.  We saw a ton of great stuff, and had a lot of fun.  I'm sure we will tell you all about it, and show you all the pics.  Everyone is doing well, and definitely ready for bed!  We will be going to church in the morning, and then having a worship time on the beach tomorrow evening.  Pray for a great day at church, and another day of safe travel.

New York City Mission Trip Day 5

Day 5 in NYC was a good day.  We spent the day at the Lighthouse Inn, which is the place where we are staying.  We spent the morning serving their ministry by painting, cleaning, hanging sheet rock, moving a fridge, and a host of other small projects.  Urban Impact is seeking to plant a church here in the area of the Lighthouse Inn, so in the afternoon, we went to the beach to talk with people and invite them to play volleyball and have a BBQ.  Urban Impact has seen people show a lot of interest in the Lord through the relationships built through playing volleyball and inviting people to BBQ's.  As we were inviting people, it started to storm, and the beach cleared off.  So, we ended up having to cancel our plans in the afternoon.  We continued to do some small projects, as well as spend time with the urban impact staff team.  Although we would have loved to spend time with people from the community, we are trusting the Lord to continue using us a leading us.

Today will be a sightseeing day for the team.  We will spend the day in Manhattan, seeing all of the typical tourist stuff of NYC.  We are looking forward to a fun day!

New York City Mission Trip Day 4

What a great day here in NY, NY.  This morning, we journeyed out into the record setting heat, to see what God had in store for us.  We started out working with a man named Pastor Boto in Queens, near the South Asian Center.  We went to an area where people tend to congregate, and we started sweeping the sidewalks and cleaning up trash.  Through this, we were able to start many conversations with people, and share the Gospel with them.  Many of them were very interested and responsive.  One man said, "I have never heard this before...it makes my heart glad."  He is from India, and he is planning to attend Pastor Boto's church this Sunday.  Each student did an amazing job at interacting with people and doing ministry today.

This afternoon, we handed out a few more flyers for the afterschool program, as well as prepared for the program.  There was one cute little African boy that came, and he had a great time.

This evening, we continued teaching English.  This has been a great opportunity for us to share Bible stories and interact with the people.

The team is doing great, and ready yet again for a nice shower and a good nights sleep!

NY Mission Team Day 3

Hello, All!

Well, we've completed day 3 of ministry here in NYC.  We are just getting settled from a long, hot, and awesome day! This morning we spent quite a bit of time at the West African Center, painting and helping with other fixer-upper type projects.  After lunch, we took the subway to Manhattan, where we toured the Islamic Cultural Center for a couple of hours.  We had quite an interesting lecture from the Imam at the ICC, and it was an educational experience.  We are so grateful for the hope that we have in Christ and eager to share that hope with those we meet.  After our time in Manhattan, we headed back to Brooklyn for dinner and then to the West African Center for more ESL classes.  The West Africans that we've been working with are so eager and enthusiastic about learning; they make are job exciting.  :)  Overall, our team is doing great.  We have had no issues, thus far.  Today was HOT.  Like 98* kind of hot.  That was a good stretch for our attitudes and actions.  James and I were both proud of the students and how well they've done working without complaining. We are blessed!

Please pray for these things:
*Cooler weather
*Continued physical health
*Positive attitudes
*Endurance and strength
*Ministry opportunities and boldness to act on them :)

Here are a few photos from today's adventures.

We hope you all are doing well and having a great week!  Thanks for all of your prayers.  We will continue to update you again tomorrow night.  On Thursday's agenda:  neighborhood evangelism around the South Asian Center in Queens, After School Kids Club at the West African Center in Brooklyn, ending with more ESL classes at the West African Center.  Talk to you soon!

Blessings,
Jessie

New York Mission Team Day 2

Great day in NYC! We stayed busy traveling to different parts of the city and getting acquainted with the ministry sites. This morning, we toured and observed a Hindu temple. Very interesting, and we learned a lot about how to interact with Hindus. This afternoon, we prayer walked in Brooklyn, and handed out fliers for the after school program we will be working with on Thursday. This evening, we helped in the English teaching classes with W. Africans. It was a ton of fun, and a great way to interact with and share the Gospel with people. Pray for another great day tomorrow. We will be doing some painting in the morning, then doing more ministry with the W. African center. The team is doing well, and ready for a good nights sleep!

New York Mission Team Day 1

We are safely in NYC, and excited about all that God is going to do! Our flights and travel went well, and we are settled in to the Lighthouse Inn, our lodging for the week. There is another mission team here, and we are quickly making new friends. We will begin our ministry and work tomorrow, and we are ready to get going. Pray that we will be able to get in the swing of things quickly, and that God would use us in a powerful way. The team is doing very well. You'll hear more from us tomorrow!
